Olga Reed School emphasizes daily recreational reading through Accelerated Reader. Our students set personal reading point goals each trimester and are recognized for their reading achievements at our awards assembly. Our most successful incentive is our “Read for Fun, Read for Fish” program. When students earn 20, 30 or 50 Accelerated Reader points, their name is placed on a banner in the school library, and a goldfish is placed in the 150-gallon aquarium. The students may take the fish home at the end of the school year.
8th Grade teacher, Mr. Michael Luis has challenged the student body to earn 10,000 AR points or read 40 million words by June 1, 2011. If they meet the challenge, Mr. Luis will dress as a girly princess for the last assembly of the year. Encourage your student to read and meet the reading challenge.
